The handkerchief- one of the main accessories of the Lady. This language was known for many centuries. Standard vocabulary of the handkerchiefs- The Grand Americana style.

Four very common forms of silent flirtation are carried on with the handkerchief, the fan, rings, and postage stamps. The handkerchief flirtation is probably the oldest, except in China, where the fan is almost made to talk. The following are the interpretations for the handkerchief.

RESTING ON THE RIGHT CHEEK -Yes.  

RESTING ON THE LEFT CHEEK NO TWIRLING IT IN LEFT HAND- I wish to be rid of you.

TWIRLING IT IN RIGHT HAND- I love another. 

FOLDING IT- I wish to speak with you. 

DRAWING IT ACROSS THE FOREHEAD- Some one is watching. 

HOLDING AGAINST THE EYES-You are unkind. 

HOLDING AGAINST RIGHT EAR-You are changed. 

OPPOSITE CORNERS IN BOTH HANDS-Wait for me. 

OVER THE SHOULDER- Follow me.

WINDING AROUND THE FOREFINGER - I am engaged 

WINDING AROUND THE WEDDING FINGER- I am married. 

PUTTING IT IN THE POCKET -Good-bye, no more at present.
